A Little Bit of Everything: The Trash Plate Edition

For the first year of Leo’s life, I made ALL his food, meticulously packed his lunches, and was the mother I tried to be with the previous three kids. Everything was GF, Non-GMO, Dairy Free, Organic etc etc. I was hell-bent on this and quite enjoyed it as he was the first kid to like and enjoy food in a way the other 3 did not. Cut to his 1st birthday and I threw in the towel. I basically decided to just let him eat what his siblings eat and focus on good, full nutritious foods when I can control it. Lately, my husband says the lunch I pack for him is officially called the “trash plate” it’s the brown apples from my kid’s lunch the day before, it’s a half-eaten banana, and some leftover sausage with some newly baked but maybe sus sweet potatoes. He doesn’t complain, food isn’t wasted, and we can all rest easy knowing he’s fed and 80% of it is good, healthy food.
This week’s Substack is my trash plate. A little bit of this and some of that. Why? Well between, shooting this TV — ahem — reality show, running my company, stacking up my podcast guests, living 1/2 in NYC and 1/2 in FL, AND trying to be a very active mom, I feel like these scattered bits of what I love from the interweb maybe will resonate with all of you. Because we have all had crazy weeks or months and sometimes, you just can’t simply do most of it, let alone all.
