We kicked off our family vacation with a classic plot twist: my youngest, Leo, came down with a brutal fever and non-stop vomiting the night before our flight. So there I was—zero hours of sleep and mentally preparing to board an overnight flight to Europe with four kids. Glamorous? Not even close. Worth it? Somehow, always.
Now, I can’t give you any real advice for surviving a red-eye with a sick toddler (I’m still recovering), but I can help you pack. Because if there's one thing I’ve learned about international travel, it’s that feeling good in what you're wearing makes everything easier. So, here’s what made it into my (overweight) suitcase and should probably make it into yours, too:
You know I love a good stud. It’s been an RM signature since the beginning. So obviously, the Ayla Studded Clutch made the cut. She’s small but mighty—and works just as well for a night out as she does when you’re out to dinner with four jet-lagged kids.

I've been living in the Naya Eyelet Dress. Eyelet in Italy is basically a requirement. The V-neck is great for layering necklaces, and the midi length means your shoes still get a moment. Yes, it comes in white. No, I didn’t bring the white (have we met?).

I’m not usually the “jeans on a plane” type. But if I were, I’d pick these. They’ve got stretch, studs, a raw hem, AND that lived-in wash. Because I believe in backup plans, I also packed the shorts version.

Let’s talk layers. If you’ve been to Italy in the spring, you know it’s a game of temperature roulette. Enter the Juna Eyelet Top. Easy to throw on, light enough to wear over your shoulders during the day, and doubles as a full look with jeans at night. Black and white only. You know the drill.

Circling back to bags (because when am I not?). This new Evil Eye Bucket Bag is truly the perfect size. The studs make it a not-so-basic neutral that still works with everything in your suitcase.

And now, shoes. Arguably the hardest part of packing, because they’re heavy and I always want to bring too many. But I narrowed it down (sort of). First up, these woven platform slides: comfy, coastal, and just enough lift to feel elevated (pun intended) without the foot pain.

You can never go wrong with a good slingback. I’ve been living in these, and by the looks of my DMs, you guys are into them too. They’re comfy, come in a bunch of colors, and have earned a permanent spot in my suitcase.

I wear a lot of black. We know this. But every once in a while, I switch it up (I swear). And this linen dress is proof: easy, breathable, and a fun pop of color in my closet. She works just as well for the beach as she does for a vineyard. Just add sandals and you’re good to go.

You know I love a dress that can do both. If you’re looking for something to take you from day to night, this one’s a must. Wear it walking around doing all the touristy things, and then swap your sneakers for strappy sandals for dinner (brownie points if they’re RM).

Whether you’re heading to Italy like me, packing for a vacation, or just looking for pieces to live in all summer, here’s what made it into my suitcase. And yes, it was overweight. I regret nothing.
